Private coaching is a great thing to do for the following reasons:

1. Prepare a part. Take time and delve deeply into a part. All of us have difficulty doing this alone. Acting is not microwaveable. You need time to make careful choices. Ask questions, try things out, proceed to build the part. A great deal gets done in a one-on-one setting. It’s satisfying, and the progress is real.

2. Get ready and be ready for an audition. Coaching ahead of time prevents that level of fear that disorganizes you at an audition. You can be confident in your choices, more flexible about changing them on the spot, and more open to the people there to see you. You might even make some good friends.

3. Work toward the big picture. Gain a deeper understanding of technique, and work at your own pace.

Good coaching is holistic. Where are you with the profession of acting at this time? What do you want to do? Where are you stuck? Why are you afraid?

The main thing about coaching is that it provides a warm, relaxed environment to do work that you just can’t do under pressure. At certain points along an artistic path this can be invaluable.
Lindsay privately coaches actors, singers and anyone who has difficulty with public presentations.
