Throughout
this class I will give actors technical help to play with skill and
freedom. Technique is work, but the exercises
are fun because they’re
doable, and once accomplished you have them under your belt. The point is
to have skills you can practice so that you can work effectively on your
own.
The atmosphere in my class is one of colleagues working together.
Whether you are succeeding or failing in any particular class,
there are reasons, and we
will explore them, reducing shame and despair around performances and auditions.
All acts in class are acts of courage.
You will be more capable of looking objectively, scientifically,
at what you did or did not do. You can then move on from any
disaster and make something
of it for the future. All mastery is simply a fine coordination of “notes-to-self” from
years of failed attempts.
1. We will work on scenes, monologues, and audition pieces.
2. Everyone will learn the three-question technique Sanford Meisner
created to break down a scene.
3. Those
who want to and who need to will go step by step through Uta Hagen’s
excercises, and excercises that I developed over the years.
4. I will help you be accurate about yourself, so you can fix problems
when they arise.
5. We’ll have fun.
